Description of the Artwork “The Embrace” E Version
The Embrace E Version is the fifth pictorial work by Cesare Catania referring to the theme of the Embrace. This work is the preparatory one that will take the Embrace of Catania from a painting to a sculpture. The graceful and slender style of the two figures in the act of embracing is clear in this painting. Unlike the 2016 painting, where the two figures coexisted in a fluid and harmonious Embrace B Version, in this E Version the dynamism of the bodies predominates, almost as if they were twisted on themselves in an enveloping embrace. The same dynamism will then be found in the sculptural F Version.
The aforementioned vignetting of the image, already used in “The Violinist of Barcelona” (B Version), indicates the still image of a moving scene, almost as if the two bodies depicted were dancing and rotating in space.

“The Connection with the Embrace project"
The Artwork in question is among those forming part of the Embrace Project, an artistic project of socio-cultural origin, conceived and developed by Cesare Catania himself and which has as its main objective that of supporting art, culture, medicine and all sciences in general through the most incisive means of communication: contemporary art.
Art therefore becomes the means with which to do good, in an ethical way, and through which to convey a simple but strong message: “Let’s go back to hugging each other again“.
The Embrace Project and all its artistic and social declinations have allowed Cesare Catania to be appointed the only World Ambassador of International Hugging Day for 2023.

The Cultural Background
The Embrace E Version derives from the very famous painting Oil on canvas (B Version), shown above, depicting in a strict sense the embrace between a man and a woman and in a broader sense the embrace between two people of different colours. The Cubism of the B Version now gives way to an informal decomposition of the painting itself, in preparation for a new and futuristic sculptural representation that will take place shortly thereafter.
