The sense of closeness to the Cubism movement and the mathematical vision of reality
There are several works of art by Cesare Catania that somehow bring him closer to Cubism, an artistic current born in the early 1900s that tends to break down reality into simple polygonal figures and recreate it on the canvas through the superimposition and contrast of geometric elements well distinct. Among the main exponents of Cubism we remember among others Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Gino Severini and many others.
In this series of 100 works, the painter Cesare Catania tries to explain how it is possible to arrive from simple geometric figures to interpret the constant reality, to break it down and reassemble it to give life to a single and articulated canvas, in this case the one entitled“Trois Hommes” (2016 – 2017).
Thanks to the graphic explanations of Cesare Catania, the aesthetic complexity of a cubist representation reaches the typical simplicity of mathematical analysis, a simplicity given mainly by its logical rigor.

The “100 works”
In these 100 works of art it is clear starting from edition # 1 how everything arises from a few simple geometric figures, which gradually embrace each other to give life to a harmonious composition in shapes and color. The cubism of Cesare Catania is perceived by the artist as a tool that, through the superimposition of several planes, allows the representation of reality at the same time in a decomposed and orderly manner.
Already in other works the artist Cesare Catania has introduced the concept of superimposed planes (for example in “144: Terzetto Jazz“, in “The Lisbon Zoo“), a precursor concept of a dynamic and mature cubism that will see Cesare Catania master the decomposition of reality into polygonal figures also in subsequent works of art.

The “Three Men” (2016 - 2017) by Cesare Catania is an aesthetically engaging work and at the same time full of meanings. Made with a mixed technique of oil on canvas, the painting aims to embrace all science from the ancient Greeks to today.
The canvas represents the 3 cornerstones of science for Cesare Catania, artist by vocation and profession, civil engineer by academic training: the man on the left is Amedeo Avogadro (XVIII century) , scholar belonging to the Enlightenment current and known for the constant N which defines the relationship between the number of atoms necessary to form a mass of substance equal to the atomic weight. The revolution of this discovery consisted in being able for the first time to relate the macroscopic world "of grams", hitherto well known and defined, with the microscopic world "of atoms". Avogadro's constant is equal to 6.02214129 ... x 10exp23 MOLexp (-1) and it is precisely with these numbers scattered around the canvas that the artist pays homage to the Italian scientist.
The man depicted in the central part of the painting jumping over a sphere represents Pythagoras, the first scholar who according to the classical bibliography was able to overcome precisely the barriers between the straight and the curved world, defining the lazy quantity as the constant that binds in each circle the ratio between the measurement of the circumference and that of the diameter.
Pythagoras
Pythagoras represents for Cesare Catania the reference point of all ancient science and it is for this reason that the author pays homage to the ancient philosopher with the numbers of the constant 3.14 ......
Heisenberg thus becomes for Cesare Catania the man who sanctions the break with previous scholars of classical mechanics. According to Heisenberg (1927), in fact, it is not possible to know precisely the value of the position on one side and the speed on the other of a particle at the same time, precisely conjugated quantities.
